What Is Third Friday in Downtown Stillwater, and What Should You Do There?

Downtown Stillwater Ann Morgan

Third Friday is a monthly event in downtown Stillwater, held on the third Friday of each month, with special events, businesses open late, and one-night-only specials. The next one is tonight, Friday, October 16, and the one after that is Friday, November 20. It's one of the easiest ways to see why people love living here.

What's happening tonight

  • OSU Museum of Art (720 S. Husband St.), 4 to 6 p.m. The museum stays open late, and it's free. You can walk through the galleries or drop in for a hands-on activity.
  • Music at Modella (721 S. Main St.). Modella Art Gallery hosts free live music on Third Fridays, with light bites, the current art exhibit, and the gift shop. [Confirm tonight's start time with the gallery.]
  • Late hours and specials downtown. Many shops and restaurants stay open late and offer one-night-only specials. [Add the businesses you know are participating tonight.]

How I'd spend the evening

Start at the museum while it's quiet, walk down Main Street through the shops, and stop for dinner or coffee. If you're new to town or thinking about moving here, take your time. Downtown Stillwater covers more than 11 blocks of shopping, dining, and coffee, so you'll see something different each month.

My favorite stop: 405 Mercantile. Lora recently changed how the shop is set up, and it's now full of local vendors. You can find clothes, jewelry, purses, OSU gear, gag gifts, and even treats for the dog, all in one trip. Every purchase supports local people, which is a big part of what Third Friday is about.

Why I send newcomers downtown

If you're considering a move to Stillwater, one evening downtown shows you what a place feels like faster than any listing can. It's walkable, it's full of locally owned businesses, and it's where much of the community gathers.
